SAN PANTALEO’S MARKET

If you have ever visited a new town, you know the heart of the life of that town is to be found at its market – Mercato in Italian, or also Mercatino as in the case of Sardinian village markets.

In this article, you are going to learn about San Pantaleo’s market, how it came to be centred around its Piazza della Chiesa – the church’s square – the items you can find, the people who attend, and why many refer to it as the chic-est market in the world.

THE CRAZE

There’s something unique happening in San Pantaleo. Something that pulls people away from a nice morning at the beach every Thursday morning.

People park on the roadside for kilometres before reaching the small village by foot. All because of its market!

WHERE DO I PARK?

Before even reaching the market-place, you have to solve a big problem – where to leave your car.

If you’re travelling from Olbia and Portisco, try and find a place before reaching the piazza. That means parking either on the main road or, once you are getting into the village, on the side roads. Of these, try the first two on the left and on the right.

After the first two side roads, you reach the piazza. Which means that after another two side-roads on the left you’ll be out of the village on a road unsuited for parking.

If you are travelling from Arzachena or Abbiadori, try and park in the side-roads after the piazza.

WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO VISIT?

The best time to visit is Spring and Autumn, when temperatures are around 20-25°C and there are just enough people to keep the place nice and lively.

Be prepared to find a good crowd in the summertime – and slightly higher prices too.

However, it’s still worth a visit.
